Re: A new antweighter (again!)
Post AWS work:
1.rebuild the bent babymetal chassis
2.get grippier wheels for exuberant as the zoni pushed it way to easily
3.start work on a stupid robot,I do need to ask a couple of questions though
A.how easy is it to make a fully removable weapon with a second battery?
B.what extra costs are there for having a second battery ?
C.how heavy a disc can the brushless in bad idea cope with?

Re: A new antweighter (again!)
a) It's as easy as you make it really - using a second battery would make things easier because then to remove the weapon you only need to unplug it from the reciever (along with any mechanical mountings, etc.). You could with soldering make up a connector to allow the weapon to be run from the same battery as the drive, but that's obviously more complicated (and not what you asked!). The only thing to bear in mind is that obviously the robot has to be in weight and cube in all configurations!
b) Just the weight and size from the second battery, really - depending what you have in mind I would consider using one battery and making a connector up as I mentioned above if you're planning a big spinner or something else where weight is critical. The only people I can recall at the moment who did that are Peter Waller (Variant) and Harry Hills (...something, can't remember if it had a human-pronouncable name).
c) Not sure
as a rule of thumb, if it 'looks' right proportionally compared to what other people are using, you should be okay, but spinners aren't exactly my area of expertise...
Glad Baby Metal is carrying on though, that was one of the best and most unique looking ants at the AWS

Re: A new antweighter (again!)
This most certainly will be a ridiculous disc bigge than anyone else's and completely undriveable.I was thinking it would be a flea 2wd pusher with a fully detachable disc with 20g brushless 13g battery and stupid disc thats like 35g to turn the 2wd flea temporarily into a ant spinner

Re: A new antweighter (again!)
The disc in bad idea is upwards of 50g though that motor has had a lot of extra support added to it. I think the whole spinner setup was either 80 or 100g. It broke a motor mount without hitting anything in testing.
In Test Robot Please Ignore the disc is a more sensible 12g + motor. Most spinner discs tend to be in the 10-20g range. I STRONGLY advise making your first spinner a sensible one. A robot like bad idea is fun but is also absurdly dangerous to run. Not that regular spinners aren't but there is less risk, and much less risk of self destruction.

I considered detachable discs with a sensible option a stupid one and use the sensible one for tests

Re: A new antweighter (again!)
See the problem is a robot with a spinner is very hard to make removable. You don't realise how much force your own robot takes when it hits something. You can leave a good 10mm gap around the disc and the setup can flex enough without the support to hit yourself. The chassis in a spinner really needs to be dedicated to it. Now I'm not saying don't attempt it just it would be a good idea to build a robot that is just a sensible spinner first just to give you an idea of what to expect. After that I would love to see what you build in the way of interchangeable stuff!
Remember the thanks to physics however powerful of a hit your robot deals will also be put back into your own robot equally powerful right into the motor. Also make sure you have a safe way of testing. the spinners can't half throw shrapnel and themselves around, even just a bit of plastic between you is better than nothing.
