I thought I'd throw this one out on here first as I just want to check that all's good before i post a new thread..

We recently cleared out a large barn at the farm where I live in Somerset for a new years party. My dad pointed out today that since the barn's probably gonna remain empty until autumn, I could hold an antweight event in there between the next two AWSs. Would be along the same lines as the antweight open or antfreeze. I know it's a bit out of the way, but it's a large free venue with power, lights, and a roof :P. I can get some tables and chairs together for it easy enough. Would seem like a wasted opportunity not too :L

Also, if the weather permitted, I might be able to put a class 5 FW arena together; aka some sheets of wood surrounded by hay bales. Be fine for playing around with non spinner, all electric feathers if people wanted to bring them. If Dave wanted to bring his BW arena then that'd be cool too; shouldn't be short on space :)

Could quite possibly end up being all weight classes from feathers down (though feathers being somewhat limited in variety). Another advantage is we wouldn't have to be out by a certain time, so less constrained on time. Would probably follow a similar format to the antweight open, ie be mostly antweight tournaments, but we could allow a longer lunch break to have some feather and beetle fights, or have more than one break and split it into that.

First need to sort out a date though, but for that i need to know when my exams are, and when other events are gonna be..

Is there any reason you're running this as an extra, rather than the AWS after this coming one? I understand that people want some light relief between but we are short on volunteers to run the AWSs and some of us can only afford to come to those.

If there's no AWS planned after the Reading one yet then sure :) Would be easier then as it could be a bit later in the summer so it definitely wouldn't clash with exams. Would mean the FWs and BWs would have to take a back seat for the time being, but thats not a really a problem.

I don't think anyone has volunteered for the one after Reading. Would be a nice change to high tech lecture theatres. Though our travelling would be...interesting. Ha.

There's a train station fairly near by, so we can hopefully sort lifts; we managed to get 80 people to the farm for the new years party, many by train, so it's possible :L

It would be very low tech by comparison; I've got a lot of doors on trestles which usually make do for tables (though might have to see if more can be borrowed from the village hall), and the seating may consist largely of hay bales :P

Authentic rust will be provided if your antweight is too clean for this event! ;)

Sounds ace. We can all ruralize our robots. Which is the nearest airport? Bristol?
