I'm new to building robots aand the upcoming aws will be my first aws
I have 3 robots that will be competing:

Drive: 2x modded parkflyer HPXf's
Battery: 7.4v, 300ma LiPo
Weight: about 145g
Armour: 1mm polycaronate
Chassis: unsure, I think it's foamboard
Notes: It's a Pants kit I bought from Pete C, and has since been modified by Dave Weston (Thanks Dave )

Weapon: Flipper made from grade 5 titanium
Drive: 2x geared 30:1 ratio geared pololu motors
Speed Controller: Sabretooth 5A Dual Channel
Battery: 7.4v 300ma LiPo
Weight: 154g
Armour: 1mm polycarbonate
Chassis: 1mm polycarbonate
Notes: It was custom built for me by Pete C

It might be worth trying to shave a bit off Terrior as the WS events tend to be more strict than Reading Robot Club. I think they usually allow 152.5 at a pinch but it would be a shame if it was excluded for a couple of grams. It is not looking too good for my new version of Dominant to be finished unless I get going. The CNC machine is great fun and makes nice parts but with the steep learnig curve it does seem to take twice as long.

Hi,
I do have some pics of my bots, but I don't know how to get them onto the forum.
My dad has tried grinding a few pieces off Terrior, as well as drilling a few holes. I have removed the case from the reciever, the balancer lead from the battery and excess length from the cable ties holding in the motors etc.
Do you think I should try drilling more holes in Terrior, or are there other options?

Holes are always an option but you always seem to need more than you think to gain just a few grams. I notice you are using a 300mah battery reducing that to 200mah would save 6gms on the 2 cell packs I use but that is probably not an option for this weekend.

Jack, the best way to show photos is to upload them to your own website or to a photo site like flickr or photobucket, then simply paste links into your forum post.
You can post images on the board, but you still need to host them somewhere, and it generally works better if you just post a link.

To save weight by drilling holes, you have to drill a lot of holes! For example, a 3mm hole in 3mm thick polycarbonate saves about 27mg (yes milli-grams!), so you have to drill 36 holes just to save 1g.

If possible, weigh each component to see where weight can be saved. If your armour only weighs 10g, then you will need to lose 40% of it to save 4g. However, if your chassis weighs 40g, you only need to remove 10% of it to save the 4g.

Not exactly a new robot, but here are the specs for the latest version of RONNY:

Chassis: 3mm HDPE, all welded construction, over 350 weight-saving holes!
Armour: 1mm HDPE, one piece shell, folded and welded into the "classic" RONNY shape.
Weapon: HS81MG-driven 1mm aluminium flipper, about 150 weight-saving holes.
Drive: Sanyo-type motors controlled by boards from standard-size Acoms servos (running at 7.4V).
Power: 7.4V 130mAh LiPo
Weight: About 150g after I've finished trimming the flipper to the correct length!
