I have tried the full disc spinner and it is much worse. Now it is difficult to tell if this is due to a slightly worse balance but I think it is more to do with the total mass that is spinning. The fibre glass disc with cutters weighs in at 37gms which is 17.5 gms higher than the polycarb arm with cutters. In one case almost 25% of the mass is spinning and in the other 14% which is a significant difference. Anyway I think I will try the polycarb one at Reading in just over a week to see how it does.

unbalance

Peter, that's surprising that the disk didn't perform any better.

What exactly happened? Can I see a video?

The bot looks great, provided the disc's balanced I can't see it not being an effective fighting machine.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I'm aiming to get to an antweight event sometime this year.

The problem was as the speed increased it started to bounce about and so I shut it down before it took flight. I think the problem is probably balance which seems to get worse as the mass gets higher. This motor is rated at 120W and runs at almost 14000 revs on 8.4v. Both arms were CNC'd so they should be OK and I transfered the blades from one to other so they should be the same. Because there are only two wheels I use the chassis front and back to stop the robot tipping but there is about 1mm of tip to ensure the weight is on the tyres.

I am working on TruANT.
Everything is going fine, but i think we may have a weight issue.
I am going to put up a blog for him on youtube! :D

I've been working on the new Baby Hell, and fitting it all in the original chassis didn't workm so I;ve had to make it a lot bigger, not very pleased with having to do that, but I may make it smaller once I've got it all in and working.

Okay guys, here is the first 2 installments of the TruANT blog! :D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_CXQCI954c - 1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aiVMQli ... re=channel -2

the idea of the robot is that it is invertible, and haas 2 spinners, one on the front and one on the back.
I am going to get two titanium laser cut discs ( 50mm dia) from will (team shock). :D

3rd part coming soon!

A very nice shape fitting the two spinners in the diagonal. I look forward to seeing the finished robot.

Not sure how you would save more weight. The ali frame looked holey already.

Will it double as a spinner when turning real quick with the brushless spinning?

Unless you want to make a new chassi, I cant come up with anything else. Otherwise its Polycarbonate or Rapid protoyping.

We are going to save about 10g by shortening all the wires, and swapping to nylon screws in some places. :)

@Flippt , i really cant imagine what will happen:

Low traction wheels+both spinners on full speed+spinning round on the spot at full speed+hitting another bot= OMG! :P

I thought it was tall, but in our calculations thats the tallest it can be if we want the spinners to be exactly in the middle. :)
