Cutting away part of the chassis has enabled me to recess the battery by 3 mm so it can still run inverted with the 3 cell pack.

At full power there is more vibration than before this may be due to the higher speed but it is probably at least partly due to a less well balanced blade.
Still 1.5 times the voltage gives 2.25 times the power.

I am building a new flipper ant, aptly named "Chuck".

Just got a mini-sumo contest in Vienna, then I can concentrate on getting this one done. 8)

Thank you for the kind welcome. I'm certain that a lot of questions will arise along the way and I also hope to attend an event very soon.

I will have a post soon about my choice of components as I'm at total newb when it comes to RC :D

That most certainly is my mini. It was inspired by Black Widow, built by Kristina Miles. The mini itself has no object-detection and only has edge detection. It moves randomly around the ring hoping to bump into it's opponent setting of a power switch, which quadruples the amount of power going to the motors thus pushing the opponent out of the ring. It is sort of an experiment in terms of build as I was going to opt to use the standard IR detectors but chose to do something a bit different as I'm using a pure hard-wired circuit. I don't expect to do that well but, for me, its more of a learning experience and taking part in the event. :)

Will you be attending the event, peter?

I had been thinking about it but with the AWS in Holland the following month I think I will have to give it a miss.
The next main minisumo comp I am planning to go to will be the micromouse contest in Birmingham normally held in June the details will be published on the following forum:
http://www.micromouseonline.com/forum/index.php
I have 3 minisumo details of the first two are on my site at:
http://www.antweightwars.co.uk/Minisumo.htm
I must get round to updateing it with the 3rd one.

Yeah, that's the reason I won't be attending AWS31(?) as I won't be able to get the time off work and I would be stretched to pay for my ant.

Hmm, I have heard of LowBlow before ... can I ask what competitions have you entered in the past (if at all)?

As we seem to be drifting into more minisumo discussions I will move this to the autonomous section at:

Before you criticize another person, first walk a mile in their shoes. Then, when you critisize them, you'll be a mile away and have their shoes.

What are the dimensions on Parallax, bitternboy?

Whilst I am on the topic, I have designed a 'crest' for my robot ... it shall be going on the side of the armour.

What do we think?

I will either have the shape laser cut out and the get a carbon-copy made in black acrylic, which I will use as an inlay or (much simpler) I will just do it in vinyl.

Sam
