Hi everyone, I've added some venue information earlier in the thread so you all know how to get there etc :)

A reminder, please complete the Google form so I know who is coming - it will slow us down on the morning of the event if we have to do it then instead!

Ok, there is a month to go, and there are already 131 robots signed up ?!

This is going to beat the last on for popularity.

So Antlog is already broken?

If this keeps up we may have to close sign ups early, but we had planned to do it on the Wednesday before so we can work out how to get as many people into the draw as we could, be that via qualifying for any latecomers or dropping to 2 entries for people (done at random).

Wow, 143 now?!?! Was thinking of entering a third but definitely not now!

Is there an absolute hard limit on how many robots that can be fitted in?

From what I've heard, the maximum antlog can cope with is 128

I have just put my entry in, 147 entries and I have a few old robots that Letty can drive.

@Dave Weston do you have a plan to get through the day?
  • limited entries
    single elimination
3 way or more fights to qualify for a knock out stage?

the software is limited to 128, yes.
However, in the interest of more people and variety, we are looking into measures to get the number of entrants down to 128 but with as many people as we can muster. It may be a case that either the latecomers to sign up (on the day) may only enter 1 robot, or those with 3 or 4 on their team may be asked to drop to 3 or to 2 (if it comes to it). There was also discussion of qualifiers for the main thing for the latecomers. This is all still in discussion.

Any input from you all would be greatly appreciated.

i would say, first drop teams to 3's and see what that does with the numbers... if still no dice drop 3's to 2's...

its likely that some may pull out before the event which would further drop numbers down... so for now drop 1 bot from teams of 4, then, if it is still over on the day, see if any teams of 3 want to volunteer to drop 1 bot until that magical 128 is reached

I'd suggest a combination of Kyro and Andrew's suggestions; see how many actually turn up on the day first, then if necessary ask teams with 4 robots to drop down to 3. If there's still too many I'd suggest that those teams with 3 robots nominate one to enter into pre-qualifying to claim the last spaces, possibly using 3 way fights if needed. From my perspective it would save us having to change from double elimination whilst keeping as many teams involved as possible.

I certainly think teams with 3/4 robots should be asked to drop entries/pre-qualify ahead of those with just 1 or 2. Feel free to shoot this idea down if it's stupid.
