But the horizontal axis is spring-loaded to the centre which will spin the disc at half speed - probably not what you want!
It may be possible to add a spring to the vertical axis but that would mean modifying the transmitter.

Yeah you don't want it on a sprung stick; with a weapon, fully down is off.

Almost no small brushless ESCs have reverse... But if it does then yes, you'd need a sprung stick...

Do you have a link for the ESC you have?

... You had to pick the only ~10A ESC on HK with reverse :L Those are tricky to work with; I had one in Moon a while back and getting it to failsafe correctly on the throttle channel was difficult. You're better off connecting it to a spare horizontal channel, though that's a little difficult on my controllers. If need be I can give you a spare brushless ESC tomorrow (I have one I no longer need) or you can try solder the signal line to one of the other RX pins.

For future reference, you're best off using an Afro 12A as they're cheap and awesome.

I had to solder it all strait in so I can't swap it out but could I just move my transmitter spring onto the vertical

My spare has no wires so would need soldering in anyway; wouldn't take me more than a few minutes.
Though if you want and your transmitter allows it then you can move the spring, you just have to make sure you rebind it with the throttle in the centre position else it will failsafe with the spinner on which is very dangerous.

I'd go with the switching the ESC out rather than modifying the transmitter as that may effect future bots.
