What's the current state of ant weights now compared to the heydays?

Watch back through some of the latest AWS videos... flick to the later stages for more of the state of the art stuff :L

As a summary though: micro gearmotors, smaller electronics, brushless motors, lipo batteries, 2.4GHz and 3D printing I'd say are the main advances in the last few years....

Generally there's about 60-100 robots at an AWS these days; that's just the antweights too, the flea and nano tournaments see entries in the dozens too. This is the list of signups for the most recent AWS - although a couple of people didn't turn up, it gives you a good idea of the level of interest (also, Gary Aylward's Antlog from that event had 30 teams exactly signed up). And that doesn't take into account the people who build so many robots they need to split it across two teams, or the fleaweight clusterbots, or the phenomenon that is Lemmings...

It definitely seems a lot healthier and with a lot more people than when I started (2008/09), but whether that compares to the 'olden days' I don't know. The next couple of events might have slightly depressed attendances due to Robot Wars filming though :(

There are more antweight robots and teams attending AWS than ever before.

Some days I am surprised I am still here, I clocked up 69 years this week that's 10 years since I retired so work didn't get in the way of the robots.
