Grades of Titanium

Hi all.
I am attempting to build a new ant. I want to incorporate a hefty chunk of rotating Titanium into the build.
I am after some advice as to what would be the best material to use.
I can get hold of some 6AL-4V, or some ASTM B265 grade 5.
I am unsure of the differences. (The 6AL-4V is a better size for my idea.)

Cheers Haz. I got this from a supplier...

75x75x10mm Titanium cut plate ASTM B265 grade 5

75x75x12.7mm Titanium cut plate 6AL-4V

I presumed that the above pieces were different materials,the price is the same for both pieces.

Fancy milling it for me, once I get it waterjet cut?

I think I can see what has happened. 12.7, 0.5" and the americans tend to call it 6AL-4V whereas over here it just seems to be referred to as grade 5.

Should be exactly the same thing.

I've always seen 6AL-4V and grade 5 as interchangeable terms as well, so I'd agree with Haz's conclusion. ASTM B265 is the set of standards to which it's produced: http://www.astm.org/Standards/B265.htm.

I know Grade 5 and 6AL-4V to be the same thing as well, for what it's worth. I'd say you're safe going for that bit.

A bloody expensive one!!!!! LOL

Its proving to be a pain! The water jet company cant work with anything less than 150mm square, which is way way way way way out of my price bracket!!!
