ALL of my robots are completely bodged! You can actually stand up to spinner impacts better than the metal ones as your robot will absorb the impact thus losing the energy (which would go into tearing your robot apart), not disintegrating which is quite a nice feature of cheap designs.

My robots still have ridiculous logos (made completely from scratch) as I love the unique look this gives. Nobody has ever made fun of any of my logos at all even though some are just truly ridiculous.

As for a name, I would personally steer clear of anything that sounds 'cool' or menacing in any way. This is how I have always done it and it has served me well. Just come up with something bizarre and ridiculous but make sure it has not been done before (and having 'Ant' in it often helps!).

An extension cable is a very good idea as often there are very few power outlets available.

Good luck and I hope you do well with whatever you bring!

1. Yes, and you can sign up right until the day before the event.
2. Probably starting around 9:30-10:30.
3. Bring whomever you want :)
4. "I ASKED FOR A NAME ON THE FORUM AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS LOUSY NAME"
5. Yes, plenty of parking, no charge.
6. We all laugh at each other regularly, but it's friendly laughter ;)
7. Of course, and you won't be the only one :P
8. Extension cables are always appreciated :).

I've been taping my robots together for years and I won the thing once...

Best advice for a name is never, ever, EVER ask other people for name ideas. They are mostly awful. The best thing about a robot's name is its personal to the driver. Even if you pick a random word out of a hat, its still a name you've given it.

i named all my robots myself but one.

Hogi: robot that features in my favorite episode of red dwarf.

Ant2D2 ewok deffence unit: i was a star wars super fan as a kid.

Thunder strike: just sounds cool doesn't it.

language timmothy: catch phrase from my favorite 80s sitcom “ sorry ”

fleadom fighter: my aunty came up with this name.

yeah, so don't worry about whether the name sounds good, has any meaning or even makes the slightest bit of sense. just pick something that you like. whatever you call it, i'm sure it wont be as bad as some of the names Dave has come up with over the years, some of which i can't even pronounce. :) what was that expanding grabber thing called last time Dave? something something something phobia...
Daniel Jackson.

Team Hectic.

Many antweights

Super antweights: territorial.

Fleaweights: fleadom fighter, gaztons.

Featherweights: hectic (under construction)

My names are legendary.

In other news, this event we are being joined by a friend of ours. He's called Ross and he's coming to compete and to write an article for a free magazine he writes for on the experience. He was also on Gemma's episode of Total Wipeout. So make him feel welcome for us :-)

Dave, you know us we make everyone feel welcome :) Young kids, old gits like me, newcomers, foreigners... I genuinely think this is one of the friendliest and most inclusive organisations I have been involved with.

The friendly and helpful answers to Dangerous Dave's questions above illustrate this well. Sadly many other forums are not like this. As a moderator I feel very under-employed

Thank you for the replies, just getting everything together to run down there next Saturday. I'll sort out the registration form and everything. Thought about the name "Wabbajack" after a daft weapon in a game I'm obsessed with at the minute lol.

Edit: And this is definitely like the friendliest bunch in the history of creation!!

Awesome name! I think I should get signing up soon. Just getting things ready and adding some finishing touches. Can't wait to see your robot!
