Peter Waller Nano Adventures
As I previously mentioned I was originally looking for an upgrade for Alsoran but have been inspired by the resurgence of Nano bots prompted mostly by the reading Uni boys.
Here is my first attempt as yet unnamed weighing in at 20gms with just the front armour to go.
As can be seen a slight miscalculation ment the hacking off of part of the selfrighter tines to get it to fit the cube.

Very nice! Got some good speed, at least in comparison to my Nanos; hopefully I'll be able to keep up
Looks like a Turnigy 1440A running the flipper? I use them as they're pretty strong for the size, but they unfortunately seem to lack the speed needed for a proper flip...

Well spotted on the servo.
Here it is now complete with 0.5 mm titanium scoop and mylar edge.
I feel the need for one with a spinny bit.

I would say that the titanium is overkill, but then again I think Alex is planning a brushless drum spinner with metal blades, so it may well come in handy!
How is it on flipping? I found that a steeply angled flipper on this scale just slid out from under whatever I was trying to flip (at least, when trying to flip fleas/ants)

Both my nanos were retrofitted with a flat lip along the bottom of the flipper to stop things sliding off.. any way you could put a short lip on the front armour?

I have had a quick look at that but it means shortening the whole chassis to stay within the cube.
Not out of the qestion though but I might also be able to reduce the angle as the parts in the front are quite low.

That's a pain... at least if it does require a rebuild, it'll be pretty quick to reprint :L

I have been having a senior moment.
I shortened the chassis and reduced the angle of the scoop but found it no longer self righted.
Although I had modified the selfrighting part of the arms to fit the cube I was struggling to see why the mods had changed it.
Suddenly it dawned on me that it was the weight of the tiainium scoop that was the problem and that I hadn't tested the self righting after I had fitted that.
Still have to solve the problem but the rest of the robot looks better now even got a switch and a charging socket.

I couldn't find an answer that consistantly self righted without a major redesign so I took the easy way out and replaced the titanium with 0.4mm thick fibreglass and it is now all functioning properly.
Now if I can fit a small brushless motor in the size and weight I could have a second Nano.
I have found one problem which will chear up a certain Dave and that is apart from units with nano in front such as nanofarad there are virtually no words I can use for my robots using my standard nameing convention.
