I decided to put up a build diary of all of my robot building.

To kick it off I spent today designing Accelerant a new chassis. This is because a friend has vowed to build an antweight better than mine which wasn't exactly difficult with wonkiness of the previous version. Hopefully this is more of a challenge to beat:







I uploaded it to shapeways just to see the volume to work out the density. It was accepted which was a good start and it will weigh about 17.2grams apparently. The electronics wheels and motor mounts weigh in at 104. This leaves me with about 28 grams for 8 nuts, acetate and a bit of titanium on the front.

I also finished the design for Stanley.



It will have 0.5mm titanium on the front.

So after a long delay my shapeways chassis finally arrived! I must say for a first attempt accelerant turned out fantastic, I love it. Stanley has a slight problem with the front two bolt holes for the motor mounts though.

Accelerant feels so fragile but is surprisingly tough and the flipper arm doesn’t flex so it will flip well, I haven’t put it together yet with the electronics but here are some pics:

Here is Stanley my 4WD pusher, it is working very nicely but is just scraping in at 146grams so no proper armour for him.

These are two brushless motors and a nice speed controller that I am testing for two spinners I have planned.



Does anyone know if the type connected in the picture can take 11.1V?

I do have a few suggestions with regards to stanley:
1: those terminal blocks on the sabretooth. Take them off. If you de-solder them and solder the wires directly to the pads, you will save 9g (did this to bring Bulletproof underweight).
2: Is that mahoosive receier really nessesary ?

Looks brilliant all the same, the power and traction will be insane with 4wd and 8 pololu wheels

9g? That would give me 13g for some kind of metal plate on the front, or HDPE just something! Also That is one of the 6ch DSM2 receivers, I might swap it for a 4CH one I got today (in the spinner picture).

Thanks for the suggestions, Also that's the plan - Insane power. I wanted 6WD through gears and 12 polulu wheels originally and may still look into it.

Though With desoldering the terminal blocks will I need to remove the heatsink?

yes, that will save a few g aswell

DOes the sabertooth really need the heatsink? Bearing in mind it is normally a run sortof all day at events such as robots live.

Saved me 4g when I took it off. The heatsink is not really nessesary TBH. I run Bulletproof and Kill-a-chav without one, never had any bother.

I managed to wrestle all the unnecessary stuff of the sabertooth, nearly killed it though as I accidentally removed a small track but I managed to put a wire in its place.

Stanley now weighs 136grams so I will armour him with a small front plate of 0.5mm titanium. I will go back and look to try and neaten up the wiring aswell, I already stripped the battery pack saving a few grams.

I might try to make my own wheels to save a few more grams, then up it to 3cell lipo.
