After several unsuccessful attempts at a full body spinner I have opted for the slightly easier bar spinner where the blades are bent down so they are low enough to be effective. Here it is wedged up on a couple of bits of angle to hold it level for the photos. It success or failure will probably be down to how well I can balance the blade.

Still have to add some blades and some electronics.

Bend down over head bars have a nasty tendancy to cause the robot to flip itself on impact. http://media.madoverlord.com/Movies/tsn/E-2X4-YU812.mov is a good examplepeterwaller wrote:After several unsuccessful attempts at a full body spinner I have opted for the slightly easier bar spinner where the blades are bent down so they are low enough to be effective.

i say it won't, you remember the last incarnation of MBY? Just because the point of contact was below the center of rotating mass MBY would flip over when hit, very annoying.peterwaller wrote:After several unsuccessful attempts at a full body spinner I have opted for the slightly easier bar spinner where the blades are bent down so they are low enough to be effective. One other problem is that a bar spinner doesn't have the nice gyro effect of a big disk, so not so stable.

Just machined a new polycarb arm which is lighter so I can put more weight at the ends.

Might prove to be too flexible.
