Thanks Tim for the reference for the motors I have been direct to their website rather than ebay at http://www.fastcomponents.co.uk/index.php
The motor gearboxes arrived in under two days at ?4.99 each as opposed to $25 from the US. Also free delivery over ?20. Hopefully the 433rpm at 3v should at 8.4v speed up Mutant without a complete re-design.

despite sayin i would stick to sanyos i went and bought 4 got them this morning for my 4wd bot which on 2cm wheels should deliver bout 115 cm per second at full speed

While still not exactly speedy the new motor gearboxes have just about doubled Mutants speed so it should be a bit more competative now.

Solarbotics now have a bigger supply of sanyo style motors,

There is a 30:1 motor, 56:1 , 298:1 and the other ones too

What do people use as speed controllers for the Sanyo motors? I know PeteW makes his own speed controllers.

I have used the dual motor board from solzbots, not the one with the aux channel. Never had any problems with that.

The scorps look good, i have some in the latest anticide(need one for each motor).

The barello ant 150 in anticipation has been fine, the only time i had a problem i got a quick reply, turned out to be a swirch problem. When did you have problems with them simon?

The sanyos don't draw that much current so you could proberly build a 6wd antweight with them with any one of these speed control board
