Depending on how easily Peter can modify the arena, how about just a single drop off side? The fighting surface could then be extended to cover the other pit. Or put high fences up on the drop off sides with a smaller gap?
I know this could create longer fights but they'd be more interesting. Most of the last event's battles barely lasted seconds. If loads of people sign up we can always reduce from 4 per team to 3. I think I'd rather vote for longer/better fights than ones that are quick to control time constraints.
Thoughts, everyone?

i'm up for that, but only if it's not too much trouble.

The problem with that is people can just stay down the closed and and it is almost impossible to get them out.
I have already fitted short walls on the two open sides to reduce the drop off as per the last AWS and I think any further reduction is going to make pushers much less effective. Also I think low walls are the way to go on any extra walling as it does tend to even up between flippers and pushers.

There's that "low walls" debate again...I'm definitely going to end up just building four flippers :-(

I know its easy to hide in a corner with one end boxed off, but that doesn't get you any points if the battle does go 3mins. Plus, with the rise in spinners, they'd love to trap you in a corner where they can really get stuck in, so I'm not sure its exactly a viable tactic anyway. Staying down that end doesn't win you fights.

May I suggest that any further discussions regarding low walls/arena designs in general take place in the rules sub-forum, not in event threads?

Don't write off our arena for this yet, I'm still investigating to see if I can find any cheaper way of transporting it.

Sorry, yeah, that's my fault.

Scott, is there any way we can help to make costs worthwhile?

I'd be reticent to ask for any financial help with van hire for this event given that there's already going to be an entry fee involved. I've had a potential offer of help which may or may not pan out, and as I say, I'm still investigating other options.
