Event Signup revision

Post by petec »

Folks

One of the things on my to do list (has been for a while) is to update the event signup. Obvious changes will be around removing the reference to videos and the frequency control having a 2.4Ghz option.

I'm interested though in any other suggestions people have - particularly those using the back-end stuff. Can't promise to provide everything, but comments welcome.

The only obvious one I can think of is the addition of nanoweights.

One thing that really annoys me because I am pedantic, but if you have an apostrophe in the name of your ant, the sign up automatically adds a slash into the name (eg EBOG'/s Revenge). No idea why that happens but would be nice if it didn'/t...

Variable amount of slots, especially since teams can bring up to 12 separate entries to an event for the main tournaments.

I agree with the nano addition since nano's became popular.

It would be "nice" (i.e. not essential!) to have ants, fleas and nanos presented in separate tables. It would make it easier for event organisers to figure out how many of each there might be. In fact a total at the top/bottom of the table or an index (count) column would save having to try to count the rows manually!

Do you mean four in each category Alex? Hmm, might have to think about the best way to do that - wasn't really a problem when I first coded it up :-)

Good suggestions guys, keep em coming...

Just have an 'add another robot' button? Keep extending the list until they are done. I wouldn't hard limit it to 4 robots per category as some events allow more.

Also are we keeping the 'existing robot part'? Because that would be a horrendously long list if it was updated...

The "add another robot" thing is a good idea but could cause problems with AWSs. Even with the current sign up some people are repeatedly guilty of signing up 4 rollers, without the ability to add even more. Though that is the fault of the person signing up, not the system.

a clusterbot option next to the walker option. also, might as well remove the lightweight, middleweight and super heavyweight options as we havn't had those weight classes have not been seen in this country for many years.

I think a good feature would be able to go back in and edit/amend/delete your entries. This would encourage people to sign-up earlier as they know they'd easily be able to go back in and change or delete a robot if things didn't turn out according to plan, or to sign something up with a temporary name in order to edit it later.
