I am going to try removing a couple of cells anyway to see if that works, however if that doesn't then I would appreciate somebody lending me a lipo if they could show me how to charge one or even charge it for me as I have no experience in charging a lipo and I do not own a charger of my own. I'm sure that the servo could take 7.4v however I haven't personally tested it.

I would not use less than 4 cells (4.8v) as the receivers normally need that much. The 5 cell 120mah NiMh packs are normally about 17.3 gms so loosing one cell should save you about 5 gms and we usually allow a couple of gms leeway. At 4.8 volts your robot will draw approximatly 20% less current so should last 20% longer. The problem is the packs are normally welded together so you need to leave some of the tag on to solder to. I would just move the wire down one cell to start with to check it works before removing the cell.

I've tried to remove a cell and the robot is registering power to the controller. However when I try to control it only the servo works despite a whole night of charging. Is there a chance that I could be lent a lipo for the day, or someone help me fix the battery as it is now within the weight limit.

I have a small lipo you could try it is all charged up and I have made an adaptor to a servo plug so you can plug it straight into the receiver if it can take the full 8.4v.

Thanks pete, if it works then you are a lifesaver. It should be able to take 8.4 but fingers crossed anyway.

Thanks to Jack and Dave for organising the event. Was nice to make it since I couldn't do AWS31.

Did a lot better than I thought I would, guess being overly cautious and lucky helped. Still need to improve my ants for AWS33.
