Nanoweight arena.

Post by Hogi »

hey guys. i've been seeing a lot of these new nanoweight robots popping up both on here and on FB. as you know i'm gonna be hosting a nanoweight rumble at antweight open and i'm thinking of building my own nanoweight arena as i think it'll probably be pretty easy.

pre build questions:

size?

wall height?

would a see through plastic box be ok for the battle box?

For reference, mine is 33x38cm, which is a touch on the small side, but was what was required to fit under the battle box I used. 50cmx50cm would be a much better size.

Wall height would be around 30mm, though it doesn't matter too much.

And although a plastic box does work, I wouldn't say it's an ideal solution :P If you can make a custom polycarb box that would be much better!

hi Rory.

would these dimensions be ok?

width: 27.5cm

lengh: 35cm.

i have drawn out the board and mapped out the drop off which i'm limiting to a 13 cm gap at opppsite ends. these gaps will be at opposite sides at each end so at one end if you push your opponent far enough diagonally right from the middle you'll get them out and at the other end if you push far enough diagonally left from the middle you'll get them out. to combat the point raised in the dropoff debate about robots using the walls to get the opponent out, i've mapped out a 1 inch section of wall in the corners of the dropoff sections. i deliberately chose 1 inch wall-push restriction walls as 1 inch is half the size of the maximum a nanoweight can be so if a robot were to display a combination of particularly good pushing power, good control over the opponent being pushed out and reasonably accurate driving skill it could potentially force the opponent around the wall and off the arena. i don't have my own nano and tbh i doubt i'll be building one any time soon but i want to make at least one of the antweight open arenas myself and this seemed like the easiest one to do.

as for the battle box i think i'll just put it inside the ant arena as it's small enough.

Little bit on the small side, but otherwise sounds good!

cut the main arena floor board today.

measurements are:

width: 37cm
lengh: 62 cm

i've drawn out some 1.5cm high walls, they will be cut at the weekend.

hi guys i've finished it. here are the final specifications.

construction material: 10mm MDF.

width: 370mm

lengh: 620mm

dropoff: 4X 100mm gaps at opposite ends of the arena.

wall height: 10mm.

ditch depth: 20mm from direct drop off, 30mm including wall.

the arena should stand up to nanoweight spinners. it will be placed inside the main arena battlebox. elimination occurs on contact with the main arena floor as the arena does not have it's own ditch floor. i deliberately made the walls very low in the hope that a decent flipper nano might get an opponent over which would be cool

What thickness of polly carb would be a minimum for enclosing a nanoweight arena?

1mm would be quite sifficient i should think but for antweight open i'm just gonna put it inside the ant arena as it will fit easily.

started building another nanoweight arena today. this one will have walls all the way round and two internal pits. at antweight open, nanos will have ten seconds to escape the pit. i thought it might be an interesting thing to try out.

hi everyone. i noticed at antfreeze, robots were flying out of my old nano arena rather too easily. to counter this problem, i have constructed a new nano arena that is about twenty centimetre squared larger than the old one. this one is 71 by 60 cm which i think is a nice size for the nanos. here are some pictures of it. :)
