PC power supplies are designed to supply 5V at many many amps, but the 12V output is only usually good for an amp or so. Modifying this type of supply is far from trivial and is only for those that really know what they're playing with, since we're talking mains voltage at one end and *lots* of current at the other end, with all the attendant dangers of electric shock, fire, etc etc.

Please, please make sure you know what you're doing and take all sensible precautions when working on *any* mains-powered kit!

the 12v output on a computer supply is good for 8 amps, at least mine is.
