Hi, I know hammer bots aren't always terribly effective but I have the urge to design one.
I have a few questions before I start designing one. Looking around I've seem a few designs that use n20 motors and I've seen "fire it off rudder".
How exactly does firing it off rudder work?
What rotation angle should I expect the hammer to move through?
What n20 motors and esc?
Thanks

Re: Hammer bot design questions.
"Fire it off rudder" just means using the rudder channel on your transmitter to fire the weapon. Most people use the throttle channel to fire their weapon but its not great for a hammer as it doesn't have spring back. Using the rudder (the left-right on the throttle stick) means you can swing the hammer in a more controlled manner, less likely to break it or burn out components.
Hammer bots are great fun regardless of damage effectiveness, its always good to see more being built.

That makes alot of sense. Thanks for the info!

Yep, you set it up so the weapon esc is controlled by the rudder stick (usually left/right on the left stick) push the stick one way to turn the motor forwards and fire the axe, puch the other way to retract.
For an esc the Vex 29 is a good choice, it's cheap, small, and works well. For motors I've had good luck with the pololu 50:1 hp version, but there are lost of options and the best choice really depends on the design of the hammer.

Cool I think that covers it, time to start sketching up a design now then!
