Just a quick question. Once you've uploaded your model to shapeways where is it that you can view the volume?

Yes that confused me when they changed the site.
What you have to do is select the item you want and it displays the overall dimensions then go to the top right of the page where it says edit page 'OFF' then click the button so it toggles to edit page 'ON' then you will find the volume next to the dimensions. It is probably best to toggle the edit page to 'OFF' before you exit.

Okay, one more
What thickness would be about right for a base made from the WSF stuff? Considering it is apparently quite brittle I'm just a bit cautious that it might crack

BH's base is only 1mm but it has strengthening 'ribs', 2mm is sufficient IMHO.

Has anybody got a HPX F servo drawn up? I haven't got one to hand yet and I want to get my drive all day ordered before Saturday night (20% shapeways discount until then on wsf)

Think I've got one done, I'll have a look tonight.josh wrote:Has anybody got a HPX F servo drawn up? I haven't got one to hand yet and I want to get my drive all day ordered before Saturday night (20% shapeways discount until then on wsf)
[Edit] I've uploaded it to the 3d Warehouse. Search for Park HPX F. It's not detailed, but it works for me

Re: Tips for sketchup/3d printing
anyone have any idea how to stop this...
Sometimes,when I draw a circle inside a circle,then remove the inside area,to create a tube,when exported and uploaded,it is a solid piece,no hole in the middle.
Sometimes this doesn't happen, other times I re do the hole piece, simplifying it as much as possible, and it just keeps happening, over and over and over and over again. Even if I start from scratch,it still fills in the hole once uploaded. This happened a while ago when I was designing some wheels, and is happening now, while trying to make some motor mounts for a quad copter!
gggrrrrrrr! I am probably doing something silly, but I cant think what??
Cheers Jim.

Re: Tips for sketchup/3d printing
firstly check all your face orientations are correct, if you set all materials to the standard colourway (white/blue) then all the white faces should be external and all blue faces internal. you should not be able to see any blue without zooming inside the model. It may also be that you have hidden geometry in the face or inside the tube in which case triple click the model and any hidden lines will show up as dotted lines. only delete the dotted lines if they are not clearly defining a face (smoothed lines in a curved surface also show as dotted lines)
Hope that helps, if not try exporting into Meshlab and cleaning up the model then exporting as stl. I think Shapeways has instructions on Meshlab if you search it within their website.
