I think that sounds great, it seems to suite everyone as you say, and I think the little "rule" quibbles here and there can be overlooked if it proves to be a good fighting platform.
Depends what the rest of the committee think about how far to take the rules though.
I'm all for it Hib.

I am looking at prices of polycarbonate, it seems like technobots, RS and robot combat are the only choices. IS there anywhere else?

Thanks

Would 4mm Plexiglas be ok for the arena?

I think Plexiglas is another trade name for Perspex, so they are both acrylic.

The last time arena enclosures were discussed, I think the conclusion we came to was:
4mm polycarbonate is the minimum if the enclosure forms one side of the arena (like PeteC's arena) such that the enclosure is likely to receive direct hits from spinners.
Where the enclosure is separate from the arena (like mine) or there is a wood/metal wall (like Peter W's) then something much less robust is acceptable.
My arena uses 2mm acrylic all round. Anything that hits it has to already be out of the arena. There is also a 2" wooden wall that the acrylic sits on top of. HTH

The 4mm plastic sits on top of a 2.5" (6.35cm) wall of 12mm MDF, so no direct hits should be taken from spinners. However i could increase this height where the arena touches the sides. The only problem i can see with that is that the younger ones on't be able to see in if the table is high up.
