My goal is a 150 gram bot for our upcoming makerfaire. So far I have a few prototypes and a lot of questions.
As a newb I may not know enough to ask the questions with the proper details.
1. Can I use a 49 Mhz Remote Control for the robot? Like from an R/C toy?
2. I'm waiting on a step down voltage regulator for a 7.2V 2C battery. I tried to power it with 2 x CR2032 coin cell batteries it did turn on and power the motors barely but not enough juice to make it run well. When I get that module, what is the best way to determine the ideal voltage for the project? I thought it should be 6 volts.
Thanks,
Jody

Re: My first build
@coolspeedbot
Here is that Banana Bot my son and I worked on.
I wanted to try to stuff all the electronics inside the banana but I ended up printing a small shelf in the back for the battery and board.
It drives around pretty quick.
The motor on the front isn't mounted yet. We are discussing methods of for top mounting the motor or using a belt for the spinner.
It is currently only 46grams,
Thanks, don't know what we are doing, but we are having fun.

Re: My first build
Our step down converter came in today. I wired it into Z-wedge with a switch.

and that little blade can cut through a cucumber!
I dialed it all the way down to 5v It seems to run nice like that. I was just going to leave the battery in there. Is there any downside to that?
We also rearranged the motors on the banana-bot to be more balanced. It is so fun to drive around! https://imgur.com/a/pK5ox

Is that a mini-version of the Fingertech weapon blade?

Re: My first build
Leaving the battery in there is fine as long as you can charge it while it's inside the robot!
Team Badger
Has a 3d printer now yay

What is the recommended way to attach wheels to the motor?
I have seen some rims that come with screws, or clips but all the wheels I'm able to purchase are friction fit, and they pop off during battle?
Do you glue them on?
Thanks!

I supply a lot of the wheels used in ants and use a friction fit. Generally in this light of a weight class it's all fine.trimfandango wrote:What is the recommended way to attach wheels to the motor?

Though I often advise a small drop of super glue (being careful to avoid where the gearbox and shaft meet) for people who want it rock solid.
