Hi All,
So my kit arrived (the skidmark kit), and now the work begins
Design: I have never used any cad software before, this makes for a bad start. I looked at blender, and as i was advised on here, its hard. I was recommended SketchUp, the downside is that this is windows or mac and i use linux as my primary OS, so i never gave it a go. The reason i never gave it a go was because i fond tinkercad , its a web based cad app that is so easy to use even i make the below within 30 mins of using:
Please note that this is not to scale and is not my final design, but it is a rough idea
upload a gif
Next step, a few more designs, then a cardboard cut out

Looks good. I can't see the size of this and I'm sure you have realised, but if the bot fits diagonally in the 4inch cube, you can get more space to play with!
It's better than my first offering - a sawn off hot chocolate container, and helicopter receiver board (with no reverse!).

I played around with tinkercad a bit more and made it the right size:
I then made a full size cardboard version
Next i will put the bits inside this cardboard version and if it fits i will make it out of another material

Are you using one servo to power the scoop or two if you're directly connecting them, or are you adding a separate linkage? Also will the wheels be outer or inner?
Re: Scruffs Build Log, incl Design with rookie errors
The wheels will be inside.
I will be running the scoop on the middle arm (its in the cad pic) directly linked, the outside arms will be attached just for support

But here is the cardboard version without a weapon

don't worry, soldering takes some practise. It took me years to get good at it. the robot design looks good by the way.
