The school of Minimal-effort Ants
Thought I'd make a forum post now i've made a second ant, particularly since they both used the same ... unique?.. construction style.
My first Robot Scraps was made in a hurry for the last AWS at Reading Uni, and was made from whatever tools and materials I could get in a rucksack for the train. Since it worked quite well I've done the same thing for number 2.
As-Yet-To-Be-Named bot is 5 inches of finger-lacerating fun powered by a prototype ESC from one RapidRory, and made from steel grill, .5 Alu, 14 cable ties, 4 pop rivets and 1 paperclip. total construction time < 45 minutes. weighs 120g without LiPo and is rigid enough to hold about 500g on the tip of the flipper.
Who needs a 3D printer to make a decent robot?

Hehe, I see you've added a few bits since last I saw it! You'll have to bring it along to the Guildford fight; makes an ok team with Lionel
Got a picture of it harassing Stanley, (though I think Stanley was doing most the harassing that evening with his new 'weapon' )
EDIT: Also, good to see some Cybernetics revision going on in the background there! Not getting at all distracted are we? :L

Love this. Proper antweight building!

Updated chassis!
The edges are nylon and the top and bottoms are pop-riveted.
overall weight comes to 149g, and its 5 inches long when closed

Re: The school of Minimal-effort Ants
does it fit in the 4 inch cube?
Daniel Jackson.
Team Hectic.
Many antweights
Super antweights: territorial.
Fleaweights: fleadom fighter, gaztons.
Featherweights: hectic (under construction)

Re: The school of Minimal-effort Ants
I think it just barely fits without the acetate.
Wobbit 2
Courtesy of Shakey i have a 3D printed chassis to put all my components in. I still managed to get my cabletie fix in even if there was no hand-making involved.
Soon there will be a top part to the chassis and a nice flipper arm for the front.
weight at the moment is 121g, but that includes the 32g beast of a servo.

Minimum effort ants + 3D printing = sad Dave.

Re: The school of Minimal-effort Ants
He got me to build and fit all the electronics for him, and he got someone else to 3D print it, so technically he's got minimal effort ants down to a fine art
