Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings
It seems like a good idea to bunch all my robots information under one topic as Jim and Haz have done rather than a seperate topic for each.
So here is some info on my latest which is a new version of Combatant.
To look at it is much more like Variant but as it is a fixed configuration robot and the present Combatant is next to useless it is the new Combatant.
Variant has always been quite good at doing damage but could do with being a bit more stable and less prone to flying out of the arena.
To this end the new version is lower and wider and should have a larger diameter weapon.
Here is the chassis machine out of 3.2mm fibreglass.
Here all the parts laid in place roughly.
Here it is up the right way it may well need slightly large wheels to stop the blade grounding when inverted.
All up weight at present less blade and tyres is just under 100 gms.

Looking good Peter, I love it when you put a new spinner in the arena. Is there anything holding the motors in place besides rubber bands? Do they hold them ok?

Looks very nice as always Peter I like the way the frame is milled to hold the motors and gearboxes, makes me wish I had one/knew how to use one, hehe!

Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings
The rubber bands were just holding it while I checked every thing fitted and took the photos they will be replaced with tie wraps for the final thing.
By positioning the blade correctly at 45 degs I think I could take it up to 125mm diam and still fit the box and miss the wheels.

Will the fibreglass blade hub hold for an impact with a disk that long?

Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings
Thats a good question the one in the photo is in fact a beefed up version of the one on Variant made to replace that one as it was starting to split.
I suspect that for larger diameters I will need to go to a thinner blade to cut down on drag so I might be able to make it wider and rely more on the mounting screws to take the impact.

Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings
I have cut a new hub to suit the thinner but wider blades.
Now all up weight of 116 gms with the new 122mm diam blade.
The wheels now on order are 30mm dia and 20mm wide plus tyres will increase the weight a bit more.
