Re: My first ant was not a success: Onto the second!

Yep, I made the servo arm too long on purpose, with a lot of different holes to try out. It turns out the second hole worked best, so I'll trim it. And yeah, it's the servo that was recommended here ( https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigytm-tgy-306g-hv-ultra-fast-high-torque-ds-mg-hv-alloy-case-3-7kg-...

Re: My first ant was not a success: Onto the second!

Yeah, I decided last night to scrap the old chassis and start over. (Robogames safety check in one day! Eek!) I did learn a lot about bending polycarb in the kitchen, though, and that I needed a bit more height to make the servo linkage feasible. I just started whacking away with my shears and bendi...

Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings

Great, so at $5 per 20g, that's a totally reasonable cost. Woo. (Now I just need to learn CAD from scratch...)

Peter + Robot = Robert, in my sleep-deprived brain. Sorry!

Re: TinyTwo Speed Controllers

I'd like to chime in--I'd also love it if you could ship to the US. We're building a small arena and trying to get a regular group together, and it'd be great if we could get the nanoTwo here somehow...

Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings

Robert, I've just got access to a 3D printer that can print polycarb--I believe Fortus or Forte brand?--at $5 a cubic inch. I have little idea how to estimate how much I'll be using, though--I've not tried to estimate fill and wall thickness, etc, for a combat bot before. How much filament do you en...

Re: Das Mikro - £12 dual channel speed controller with mixing

Just got mine running on a cardboard test bed--it's fine with a resistor between the motor terminals (although I may have added too much braking--it's pretty slow. (Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcwbtN9ys_A ) Here's the thing, though. I got excited and stuck a biggish servo onto the receive...

Re: My first ant was not a success: Onto the second!

Well, I wound up hacking lots of the polycarb off, and having to add little braces in the corners to keep it together. It's almost torn through by the wheel holes, too. Ah, well, a learning experience--and the local plastic store had a stack of about 15 small 8x10" sheets of 2mm and 3mm polycar...

Re: Opinions on the DasMikro 2S6A ESC

By the way, I soldered a resistor on each motor, as recommended on the other thread. They're getting really hot, though--pardon my electronics ignorance, but is this normal? Okay?

Re: My first ant was not a success: Onto the second!

Yep, the tapping seems to work, so far. I'm having trouble bending the 1.5mm polycarb, though--for example, I have a 0.5" flap that's 4" long that is giving me fits, even with a heat gun. I've just been using my fingers (in potholders) while my son heats it up, bending it over the edge of ...

Re: My first ant was not a success: Onto the second!

Okay, mocked up a cardboard chassis with my son for the lifter, and just cut it out of 1.5mm polycarbonate. The weight is going to be clooooooose, though. I'd like to drill the holes for mounting everything before I fold it, but I've realized I'm not sure how to mount the servo. I'm thinking of maki...
