Re: Rule 3b - Arena Size

The AWS14 arena was made by the behemoth boys out of cnced polycarbonate. The problem was the joins were not perfectly flat and acetate got caught as it does with some arena edges. The arena I have with Scott was going to be made in 4 pieces but with the paint on the surface makes for a smooth join....

Re: Rule 3c - Arena Drop-off

I think most people are of the opinion that larger arenas are better but we may struggle with car sizes. For the drop off rules; I have had a play with the numbers, could I have positive and negative comments about this and we can take a consensus on the way forward. It will allow all current arenas...

Re: The AWS43 Feedback Thread

I would like to add a few comments on the last event. As I didn't do as well as expected I have few negative feelings about my performance. However the event ran very smoothly without some of the normal delays due to problematic robots. Many thanks for Will and the UoR SSE for organising. The 4 figh...

Re: AWS 43- University of Reading- Sat 8th March 2014

Does anyone have a spare 35mm EDF fan I could use on Saturday, mine decided it was better flying across the floor in bits? I have ordered a spare from robotbirds but I don't think I am going to have it by Saturday.

Thanks,

Re: Servo escs

You can put a 0.1uF capacitor between the motor terminals, or 2 from each motor terminal to the case to help reduce electrical noise. Having said that with the 2.4GHz that is unlikely to be a problem. Adding a larger capacitor to the power terminals would help smooth the supply from the battery, but...

Re: Yet Another Antweight Speed Controller

I understand how a brushless esc can give full power forward and back but is it limited to 50% voltage when turning? As the middle cable has to give +ve one way and -ve the other @ 50% duty. I have been playing with flashing brushless escs this week, I bought one of these for my fan robot and wished...

I have now entered... the plan is to sit NomNomNom and Ickle out for ALBOLF and FanDaBaDozy in the main AWS, assuming I can get them finished in time.

Re: Earthwormjim's Stuff

It looks a little like a centrifugal compressor which would draw the air the other way up. Not sure which way it is supposed to go..... I am bringing a new EDT robot design to the AWS with a 20A Speedo hopefully that will generate some downforce.
