The only reason for not recommending mounting motors with big wheels directly to the chassis is the massive gap under the back! There are ways around it of course and that's part of the fun
Bottom line: build what you like, however you like. Have fun!

Re: Best Brushed Drive Motors?
I've done the same, doesn't mean I'd recommend it though!

Re: Best Brushed Drive Motors?
6-7cm diameter wheels are perfectly feasible in an antweight, although you wouldn't want 30:1 gearboxes - most arenas are less than 1 metre long. The Pololu motors (or Ebay "equivalents") are ubiquitous in ants. With larger wheels you will need to mount them above the chassis rather than s...

Re: "Sioc" Build Diary
The largest, and also shown in the video, is that Sioc has far less grip on its left wheel when the right wheel isn't in use. The entire machine drifts left constantly when I'm driving it, but if the stick is in the bottom left or top right position, then there doesn't seem to be any grip at all, e...

Re: PCB Manufacture
I recently stumbled across this site which gives prices from a number of low-cost prototype vendors: http://pcbshopper.com/ The only downside is all the manufacturers seem to be based in China or the USA so shipping time can be an issue (long or expensive!). I've yet to find anywhere in Europe that ...

Re: DEAR GOD WHY WON'T IT WORK?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
For the benefit of anyone stumbling upon this thread, which switch was broken?
There is a known problem with the power switch on the Dx5e (very similar to the Dx6i) - was it this or was the trainer switch broken?

Re: Building a battle box
Most arenas are defined mostly by the sizes of material available! 30" square is plenty big enough if you are using modified servos for drive. A bigger arena can make for some very boring fights unless the robots are very fast. Conversely, if all the robots are very fast a bigger arena might be...

Re: Upgrading to lipo, other electronics needed.
Not if everything is OK on the battery voltage. The Rx has its own internal voltage regulator (basically a built-in BEC) and the servo boards will work on the battery voltage.

Re: Upgrading to lipo, other electronics needed.
If you are using servo boards from standard size servos they should run OK on a 2S LiPo (mine do!), but if you use boards from micro servos they might struggle (or they might be OK...)
Since the Lemon Rx is OK you might be good to go.
