Re: T_Y's Build Log
So I found an omni wheel on the Sketchup model library (search "Omni Wheel 2.0", model is by "machinebot...") and had a go at modifying it for 3D printing. https://i.imgur.com/hDNTuaE.png https://i.imgur.com/b3WhG2V.png Original is on the left, modified is on the right. I've bulk...

Re: T_Y's Build Log
Quick update, HYTTIOAOA is now complete, aside from the aluminium wedge. For that, I'm waiting for the aluminium servo horn to arrive (should be soon), as the plastic one currently attached is slightly shorter. In the meantime, I've been procrastinating about the mechanum wheel bot. While browsing t...

Re: 3D printing robots
I also started out with Sketchup Free. It's not be best out there but I made do. Most tutorials on the internet tend to be for the paid version, however. I've just gotten Fusion 360 (it's free for hobbyists!) so I'm learning how to use that. Haven't printed anything off Fusion 360 models yet though....

Re: T_Y's Build Log
@MarkR Ah right, fair enough. For the prototype, I think I'll stick to N20s, I already know which motor drivers to use and how to connect it all up (also, I think I'd need 4 separate driver boards for the steppers as opposed to the drv8833 I use for DC motors, which do 2 separate channels on one boa...

Re: T_Y's Build Log
I think I'd probably use steppers, I've seen a load of N20-size steppers (fit the same gearboxes as N20) on Aliexpress etc, but I've not tried them. I didn't realise you could get stepper motors smaller than those cube ones you always see, that'll be something to explore - I was going to use N20s I...

Re: T_Y's Build Log
Realised I didn't update this for AWS59. Not much to say really, as usual an incredible day even if I didn't win any fights. After a chat with GeorgeR, I ordered some 0.5mm grade 5 titanium to upgrade the shield on Percussive Maintenance 2 - I had a whiteboard against Vampire where the alu shield st...

Those N10s look like they'll be very useful, considering the smaller size

Re: T_Y's Build Log
It was actually more to do with having the forks there and the opponent being sandwiched between them and the axe. I actually now think that the gear slippage is to do with the servo horn (which is screwed to the larger gear) actually flexing under the torque when such a case happens. I'm going to p...

https://i.imgur.com/UUVPd4d.jpg Here is the shield at default position. https://i.imgur.com/hOWPGiP.jpg Here it is when fully hinged down. https://i.imgur.com/so0zXox.jpg I still have enough ground clearance at the back that I can reverse off the shield. It seems to work well in stopping robots wit...
