Re: ESC Sanity check

It does look a little bit on the large side for an antweight ESC, and 5A per channel is definitely excessive, my N20 motors stall at about 0.5A, so even with two stalled in parallel that's still only 1 amp. I also noticed, on closer inspection of the pictures on various sites, that these ESC have a ...

Re: ESC Sanity check

Do you have a multimeter? If you connect the ESC to the power and nothing else, the red and black wires on the servo-type plug (3-pin dupont connector) should give +5V from the regulator (BEC). Assuming that's ok, then can you measure the resistance between the various wires (with power off) - the b...

Re: Basic Flipper Hinge Question

For completeness - I avoided having a hinge completely and on Stacie, I just pivot the whole flipper arm on a pair of N20 motors with a coupler I made http://vectrex.org.uk/mark/flip_coupler.png http://vectrex.org.uk/mark/stacie1.jpg (Difficult to see as the part is matt black due to being made of P...

Re: Antweight World Series 58 - 29th June 2019

Chris,

Was AWS58, "The biggest robot combat event, ever?"

According to Antlog there were 121 robots. This has to be some kind of record.

Re: Coping with the demand (An EO's perspective)

I would certainly not be in favour of anything which discourages teams bringing joke robots, last-minute robots, or other kludgy things which are unlikely to win - they are certainly part of the entertainment. I didn't see any ducks on Saturday, but at least Diotant was there (when did Diotant stop ...

Re: ESCs and channel mixing

If the ESC doesn't have mixing built-in (if they are only one channel each, then they don't, there is nothing to mix) then either the transmitter or receiver will need to do mixing. I think that some of the fancier TXs can be programmed to do tank-mixing, but I don't have such a transmitter. I've pr...

Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings

Good stuff Peter, so we rate the rz7899 as "combat ready" ?

I also ran Stacie with the rz7899-based Malenki-ESC, and it ran nicely, it did a lot more heavy duty work in the kids' arena :) , and was still working at the end.

Re: Antweight World Series 58 - 29th June 2019

Massive thanks to Chris and all, it was amazing. It was my first event bringing my daughter. I think she enjoyed it and I let her drive my new robot in the tournament. Good to see so many creative robots, opponents of note: * Mantis - it is even more impressive in the flesh than the videos I've seen...

Re: Esc and Receiver

I used these from Hobbytronics:

http://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/slide-swi ... ord=switch

They're only rated 0.5A, so I'm probably exceeding that by quite a bit, but only while the robot is actually active not while switching, so it's ok I suppose.
