Re: Building an arena question

Re magnets on the Antweights becoming contentious here .. I initially made the floor with galvanised sheet steel as it seemed to be cost effective and likely durable. But after a while it occurred to me to build a bot with magnets to see if there was much benefit. Of course, not being able to help m...

Re: Crusher, why not?

It seems that when you are measuring "force" here, you are really meaning torque, which must be defined by pressure AND distance from the centre of rotation. eg foot pounds, inch ounces, Kg cm, etc. Perhaps the force you are quoted are at 1cm? Then if the crusher point is 2cm from it's cen...

Re: Team Shakey Build Diary

A question about the geared drives ...
I'm guessing that the fairly big toothed gears are custom 3D printed?
What are the pros and cons of using these vs the injection moulded production gears from China, with smaller (0.5 modulus) teeth?

Re: Turnigy i4X

I run a couple of FS-i4, which appear to be a rebadged version of the Turnigy i4. I also have some FS-i6. The i4 is in the same case as the i6 and has the same gimbals, but the main circuit board is completely different. (Looks more basic) Yes, it has optional mixing that is selected with one of the...

Re: Building an arena question

Re Antweight arena design .. I designed and built the Ant arena that we use here. It has a fighting floor area of 1100mm x 1400mm with pits at each end. Originally there were low pit walls, with 250mm wide openings/drop offs, but later 150mm high pit walls and sliding pit "gates" were adde...

Re: Building an arena question

If its any consolation, I think that ½ inch thick poly would be substantial overkill for an Antweight arena. 4mm thick is fine, or 6mm to be conservative.

I am a thumber who aspires to be a pincher with a lighter touch :D
The really wide ones are probably nicer, but I was just offering a very simple upgrade.

Re: What transmitters are the favourite now?

A really simple mod that I do on my FS-i6's ..
Unscrew the alloy ends on the sticks, then screw them back on reversed so that the sharp "spikey" ends are not digging into your thumbs or fingers.
BTW, the FS-i6 is the defacto standard in our local scene.

Looking good, but I am curious as to how the tyre will come out of the mould?

Re: Team Antiquarian & Anthony's Ant Army ready for battle

I will be interested to see how your 'flappy' tyres work out, as I have been thinking about moulding something similar but with even longer 'flaps'. My thinking being that the tyres will tend to run around on the tips of the flaps when at speed, but dig in like a wiper blade when needed for serious ...
