Antweights are one of the most popular weight classes in robotic combat and is a great place to start. It’s a very accessible class with robots that weigh 150g (the same as a half can of cola) and fit in the palm of an adults hand. They can be built on a kitchen worktop with basic tools and using materials that can be found around the house. Design and learning to drive is more important than raw power and the challenge is building the whole thing within the limits. There is even a starter kit available. The main competition, the Antweight World Series, is held three times a year and provides a great start to engineering.
