Hi everyone,

I signed up a couple days ago to find some more info about Antweight Bots.
I have no experience building bots, but I'm into RC a couple years, so I have a basic understanding of how the components work.
The past days I sourced some parts to build my first bot and started working on a first design.
Parts will probably arrive in 3-4 weeks or so :)
I'm going for a pusher with a wide scoop/wedge that is also able to drive upside down.

Parts (for this bot):
- N20 Geared Motors (600RPM)
- Wheels (34mm)
- Dasmikro 2S6A ESC
- OrangeRx R614XN
- 180mAh 2S
- On/Off switch

Parts (for future designs):

- MG90S Metal Gear RC Micro Servo
- Eachine 1102 brushless motor (probably a bit too high kV...)
- Emax Bullet 6A esc

Chassis is 2mm thick box with a solid scoop/wedge in front, held by two screws.
I'm going to print the chassis and scoop/wedge in PLA.
The main goal is to build a solid first bot that can take some beating and last the duration of a match.

Any advice/feedback is welcome!

Does anyone know if there are competitions in Belgium/The Netherlands?

Hi.
There is quite a predominant Dutch community of roboteers. They mostly play at the Dutch Robot Games (or FACTS more recently) which is worth a Google, or they cross over into Germany for Mad Metal Machines. They are a great bunch of people, very welcoming.

The robot looks nice and solid. Good luck with it.

I do like the design! Seeing as it’s invertible have you considered make the scoop into a “c” shape so that you can use it both ways up? And you may want to consider putting something on the back to stop it getting stuck if you get flipped, like a curved back perhaps?

I did consider a "c" shape, but I'm a bit hesitant to go that way to avoid vertical spinners have something to grab onto and catapult me into the air.
Since I have no experience in robot battles at all, I don't know if this is a valid reasoning.
Another option is to have the same scoop upsidedown on the backside and drive it backwards when inverted.
The curved back idea is great. I'll look into that! Thanks!

I've printed my design and tried to put the parts together for the first time.
The battery (only component that's already delivered) fits perfectly between the two motor mounts.
Both motor mounts are held together with M3 bolts, so is the scoop.
My only concern with the scoop is, that it will break off quickly because of the horizontal direction it's printed in.
The assembled chassis weighs in at 50 grams. The components I'll use weigh around 53 grams (wires not included) so I think I'm good for the weight limit.

- Is it preferable to build your bot up to the 150g weight limit, even if you can go under? I was thinking that mass could be an important aspect when battling?

- Any advice or tips when using 3D printed parts on these bots?

I rarely tend to go up to the weight limit. My ants usually max out at about 130g nowadays without significant disadvantage.

I've received most of my parts, but got into something else.

I'm in the middle of building a Melty Brain bot.
The chassis is designed and I installed all components as instructed on the Open Melt website.

Only difference is that I'm using 220ohm resistors to the base of the transistors instead of 100ohm resistors.
The board starts up just fine (fast blinking led at 0 throttle meaning it has rx signal and centered steering input) but nothing happens when I apply throttle.

Now I'm wondering if it's because I'm using 220ohm resistors instead of 100ohm ones?
I don't have a lot of knowledge in electronics, but 220ohm was what I had laying around...

I'm also using a Sparkfun accelerometer (Single Axis Accelerometer Breakout - ADXL193) with the VDD, GND and OUT connections.

Any input is welcome!
