Help With My First Combat Robot

Post by GumdropGary364 »

Hey guys! I'm Gary :D

As you may have guessed from the title of this thread, this is my first bot and because of that, I have a few questions (which probably sound stupid). Here they are:

1. Do my parts "work" together?
2. Is there an issue in the diagram below? (excuse my masterful artistry)
3. Do you recommend any wheels for the bot?
4. Which ratio of Silver Spark motors should I buy?

5. Does the name Overflow inspire fear into your hearts?

Parts:

Hi Gary,
I see many of the parts you have listed are from abroad and the motors are far too large for a British antweight so are you actually building a US Ant which is over 3 times the weight of ours.

Hey Pete,
Thanks for pointing that out, mate (I would've probably been scratching my head over it later)! Any motors or other parts you recommend instead?
P.S I live in Australia and I'm pretty sure that we use UK antweight (correct me if I'm wrong, but its 150g, right?)

Yes I think you are correct Australia do run 150 gm bots like the UK, I am not sure if they have the 4 inch cube rule so that might be worth checking.
The motors we use are the size of these ones shown here in Australia and they do a starter pack which could be a good option.

I have never used this supplier so I can't really recommend them but their stuff looks OK as far as I can tell.
The transmitter you were suggesting is Mode 1 which means you have to drive two stick (back/forward left stick, right / left right stick) as the right stick has the ratchet.
If you want to drive single stick then you need a Mode 2 model.
The battery looks good and almost any small switch that can take a couple of amps will do for the power.
The polycarbonate sheet looks good I would suggest 1 mm thick or 1.5 mm thick if you are likely to fight spinners.
Good luck with your first robot and I hope you enjoy what is to me a great hobby.
