Re: Morgrugyn Destruction (Non-AWS) - 30 May 2015 - Caerphil
Hi all,
As it's less than 2 weeks until the event, I've now updated the first post of this thread with some extra info. Mainly directions and offers of lifts for anyone using public transport.
Also, I wanted to sound you all out about the entry fee. As Andy and Scott are hiring a van to get their arena down here, I was hoping to cover as much of their costs as possible. So I was thinking of a £5 entry fee? It's a bit steeper than I was hoping as sign-ups are still quite low. Any objections?
Cheers,
Rhys

I assume that is per team in which case its fine but if it is per robot some of the younger ones might find it a bit steep.
Well worth it if it saves me lugging my arena around.

Oops, I did indeed mean £5 per team. I didn't even consider people would think it would be £5 per robot!

Given the limited flight times and the relatively small number of people, I'm guessing we'll be doing other events during the day?

Well the plan was that with no drop-offs, the event would last longer than usual. But the low number of entries means we'll probably be wrapped up very early.
I've not got anything definite planned as I don't know how much spare time we will have, but we should have time for the usual tag team, robot roulette & annihilatior etc.
We have the hall until 5pm, so if there's any time after all the above, then I'm open to suggestions for anything else we can do. Or we could just have an early finish, I know it's quite a trek for some of you.

I'm open to it lasting as long as possible to be honest it'll be good to see people again, had a slightly hectic few months.
Pointless announcement: Due to incompetence I'm probably only bringing S. D. F. as a serious entry, but what I will be bringing is an onboard camera - I'm hoping (with the permission of whoever I'm fighting, and possibly outside the main competition) to be able to get some footage, put it up on Youtube and see how it looks/goes down with people. If all goes well, I'm thinking of doing it at the AWS as well, if I can engineer a robot/find any volunteers with robots that are 15g underweight and don't necessarily need to be invertible...

Yeah, might as well make the most of it while we're there seeing as it's quite a long drive for a lot of us.. I'd be up for a bit of a non spinner warm up tournament to start with just to try out the arena and get a little practice (haven't done any serious ant driving since the AWS). Hopefully anyone with an all spinner team could bring a non spinner along for that. With annihilators, robot roulette etc, we should manage to make good use of the time.
Also, look forward to seeing the in fight camera footage. I've had a bit of an experiment myself and found you really need quite a wide angle lens since its all in fairly close proximity..

I'm not expecting it to be brilliant, but it should be better than the Robot Wars house robot ones at least (or at least have less random wireframes!). If I'm entirely honest I'm mainly looking forward to seeing what happens when Entropy or Kwijebo or something similar hits you from the robot's point of view...Rapidrory wrote:Also, look forward to seeing the in fight camera footage. Good shout on the non-spinner warm up. I'm sure everyone will be able to bring a non-spinner along, looking at the entries I don't think there are any exclusively spinner only teams.

On board camera is something I`ve been planning but just havn`t had the time lately to work on the current ants we've got. One day...
