Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings
Just been moulding some tyres for one of my minisumo's and come across a problem.
Due to a combination of these silicone tyres not adhering to the wheels, trying to use a really soft rubber and the increase in weight (500gms) and drive power the tyres keep coming off in tight turns.
I have just produced a new wheel with bars between the rims that the rubber can get behind and infact totally encase them in the tyre so hopfully this should fix the problem.

Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings
That seemed to do the trick except after about a minute the wheel fell off but the tyre was secure.
You can see how the weight squashes the tyre in the shot below.

Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings
They usually have a couple of micromouse meets at Birmingham Uni each year where they also have minisumo although I didn't attend this year.
So I thought I would get them ready for next year, the first is normally around June.

Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings
are micro mouse robots the ones that run a maze autonomously?

Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings
Yes I have a wall follower which just runs the maze following the lefthand wall and is a straight race.
The maze solvers will try various routes building up a map in memory then go back to the start and do a speed run on what it thinks is the quickest route.

Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings
Yes it is the fastest to complete the course.
This is my mouse before the sensors were fitted.
This is the underside showing the red LED's and sensors.
This it it on my little test maze.

Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings
Just been experimenting with printing gears and at the same time attempting something I have been going to try for some years.
Those of you who have been around in antweights for many years will probably remember a spinner built around an internal ring gear.
I cant remember the chaps name but I think he also had a robot with black and white patches based on a cow.
Anyway here is may first attempt the ring gear is mounted around 6 ballraces 3 with the flange above and 3 with the flange below to retain it.
The drive is a small brushless motor at the moment this is just a lashup to try the concept still have to work out where the drive motors and wheels will go.
Judging by the noise it makes the gears might not last long at high speed.
