Is postage included in the Import duty limit? I was hoping to get 4 of these motors but I wasn't sure if i'd be taxed on it. Sorry for the post on an old thread, Cheers.

Here's HMRC's guide for royal mail/parcel force if you haven't already seen it:

The tax free limit changed from £18 to £15 in November.

I'm still not entirely sure if shipping is included though as in 2.3 it states:

an intrinsic value not exceeding £15, will not be charged any duty or VAT

and then in 3.1:

goods over £15 in value, and on gifts that are over £40 in value. The value of the goods for import VAT is based on the:

■basic value of goods, plus
■postage, packing and insurance

Judging from that I'd say £15 including postage, though I'm not sure about their use of the word 'intrinsic'.

I've heard a lot of people not getting caught by customs, but if you do, especially for low value goods, the handling fees will probably cost substantially more than the tax itself!

Sorry that probably wasn't much help, but I would also be interested in hearing about other people's experiences!

Just bought some of the next size motor from the ebay man for a possible new mini sumo.
They look rather nice the only real problems are they are 51.5mm long and only 160 rpm at 6V.

Andrew I have only seen them on the internet not sure how good they are.
I have no way of measuring the torque but it is all I can do to stop the shaft turning with a pair of pliers.

I was just trying to buy some of the cheap motors from ebay but the seller is away so you cant buy.
After much searching I found this seller with what appears to be the same motors:

I just noticed that Fast Components are selling some of the gearmotors *really* cheap (£4.99 for a PAIR!) through their Ebay shop.
They are described as "seconds" and they appear to have a double-shaft motor which is not entirely ideal. Although, for that price, how far wrong can you go?

Those 430rpm are the ones I used in the old Blitzkrieg Bot. they are alright, but they are 12v so I needed to run 4 cell to get some speed out of them.
