Morgrugyn Destruction (Non-AWS) - 30 May 2015 - Caerphilly
Hi all,
As has been discussed in the previous thread, the venue has now been booked, so I thought I'd set up a new thread with info and entries.
The event will be a full combat Antweight event with a few crucial rule changes to try and make the action more exciting and reward innovation.
This event will make several changes to the standard AWS rules:
- Battle times will be limited to 2 minutes instead of the usual 3 minutes.
- There will be no drop-off on the arena. Battles will be won by immobilising the opponent, knocking them out of the arena or by judges decision.
- Teams are limited to 3 robots each. The entries must be as follows: Robot 1 - Free to enter any type of robot; Robot 2 - Must have an active weapon; Robot 3 - Must be a Spinner, Walker or Clusterbot.
The event hall has been booked from 9am-5pm. Tech check and set up will start at 9am and the fights will start at 10:30am. As there are a few rule changes and this is an experimental event the finish time is anyone's guess.
As Scott and Andy have offered to modify their arena and hire a van to bring it to the event, I have decided to ask for entry fees/donations to try and cover some of their costs. I was thinking a suggested donation of £5 per team, but this isn't compulsory.

I'm assuming most of you will be using Sat Nav, but if anyone needs directions from the M4, they are here.
There's a car park for about 20 cars at the venue and lots of on street parking if that's not enough.
Public Transport:
For those not driving, you will need to get to Cardiff and then make your way from there. You can get the 'A' bus from Cardiff central bus station, which stops right outside the venue. This is the simplest way to get there, but they stop running back to Cardiff at 4:30pm. Timetable is here.
Alternatively, you can get the train from Cardiff to Caerphilly, and then a short bus ride (confusingly also the 'A' bus) from Caerphilly town centre to the community centre.
Also, I'll be driving from Cardiff to the venue at about 8am, and driving back to Cardiff after the event, if anyone fancies a lift instead of catching the bus/train.
If anyone has any questions or suggestions please let me know. Sign ups are now open.

Very interested by the new format. Only got one exam left after this date, so may be able to make it depending on how my revision's going... If not it's sounding like an oldies only event

You said to win you have to immobilise them or knock them out and you said there was no drop off, how are pusher able to knock them out if there is no drop off

Low walls on two sides. But the point is kinda to discourage pushers I think. Though perfectly possible for a pusher to get an opponent over a low wall.

Wow I'm so clever to be unable to comprehend the existence of low Walls :p

Yeah, as Dave said, low walls on 2 sides to try and take the advantage away from pushers. It should help out flippers and spinners a lot though.
And the low walls are 2 inches high, so it's not inconceivable that a pusher might get someone over the walls.

I'll almost definitely be there, quite looking forward to it however I may myself end up attending solely with a pusher (boo! hiss!) and a hastily assembled nanoweight. In my defence I'd like to submit the fact I get married today and that's taken up most of my time lately, hehe...
Depending what time the event finishes, will there be more of a chance for other events than at the AWS? Depending how many people we'd have I'd love to do tag team or a revival of Dave Weston's 'robot roulette' idea. (also, for the name, I'm going to guess 'morg-rig-un' until told otherwise - confirm/deny?)
