Birmingham TechFest (Micro Mouse 2011)

Post by peterwaller »

This event is on the 25/06/11 and is held at the Birmingham City University.
This is mostly autonomous robots such as micro mice, wall followers, line followers and minisumos although I usually take the ants for demos.

Just to let you know that I'll be coming along to spectate, so I can help out with the Antweight display again if you have a second transmitter. If there's anything you want me to bring (bar robots, as I don't have any at the moment :P) let me know.

Just yourself will be very useful I have plenty of transmitters and robots.
But someone knowledgeable to help out especially while I am running the mouse and sumo's like you did last year would be great.

This event was really good with a variety of events.
Thanks to EpicentrE for running the ants and keeping all the youngsters happy.
Good diagnosis on Suculant by the way Scott the gluey stuff inside the motor had melted and reset around the brushes.
While a new motor was a bit of a bind at least the double drive chip controllers seem to outlast the motors under adverse conditions.
Thanks also to Alastair for the help and loan of his Antweight and well done for all your events you seem to be picking up quite a few awards perhaps you could list them as my memory is rubbish.
I know between us we got a 123 in the minisumo despite it being your first ever minisumo event and I lost out to your retired teacher in the micro mouse non contact wallfollower but a great day all round.

It was great fun!

After LOTS of trouble with my F1 (managed to load the program onto the wrong chip, and I did not have the original!) I had to bipass the entire circtuit to make it just go forwards REALLY FAST! Without the penalty i got a time of 1.2 seconds!

My sumo did much better than I expected- I managed to win all my fights exept against you peter! (apart from the one I won against lowblow!).

Overall, a brilliant day, even with my robots not working properly :P

It's definately a "well done", don't feel too bad about not beating Peter... we're all having that problem.

I've still to edit the video and get it posted, I wouldn't mind getting some details of Wasabi together for minisumo.org.uk if you'd like to share. I can remember a lot but maybe not all that you told us.

Best regards,
Colin
