Due to my robots unreliability I'll be making some proper run all day robots for this next year

Go for it guys, it's good practice. I recommend that a run-all-day bot should have metal gear motors that are exposed to the air so that they don't overheat, and that they should be capable of running on 9V alkaline batteries that can be changed easily. Rechargable batteries won't run all day (or three days at Brighton Model World) unless you've got at least 2Ah in reserve.

I had a run all day robot that was overweight with a 9V battery, but was in-weight when connected to a 7.4v 130mAh battery. I believe that this was considered antweight legal for the purposes of exhibition fights.

I was planning to use 2x modded Park HPXF servos for drive, and 4 AA batteries, would that be suitable as a run all day bot?

The batteries would certainly last long wnough, but how hot would the servos get?

I'm not sure about the servos, what if I drilled holes in the casing to let some air in?

That sounds a bit dodgy Jack, I'm not sure.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

I would not use servo's in a run all day antweight. When we use servo's for drive in an antweight we run them much harder than they are really designed to be used but get away with it because they are only run for short periods. Running them continuously is asking for trouble.

That's a shame, that means I probably won't be able to make a run all day bot in the near future, as I don't have the money to buy new motors/speedos at the moment, I've just spent loads of money on my new ant.
