Brushed motor speed controllers on Ebay

Postby BeligerAnt » Wed Sep 10, 2014 8:40 pm

These

Or for more suppliers, try This Search

Has anyone tried these? I can't quite figure out why they need to use so many ICs, so they won't be the ultimate in small size or weight - but they are cheap, they even give boards from standard servos a run for their money in terms of cost.

There seem to be versions available with or without braking, but as a build/order option rather than a user selection.

I can't figure out what the attached switch might be for...

I use the 20A equivalents in my featherweight, but only with a lot of heavy mods first.

They'd probably be ok in an ant without mods, though they have only 40% power in reverse, and if it's one with a brake then you have to stop at center stick for a second then reverse or it doesn't do anything (don't get one with a brake basicly)

All the attached switch does is turn it on.

They're not ideal in terms of size and firmware, but they do work ok, and are cheap.

I started a thread on the FRA forum about using them in beetleweights if you want some more detail: http://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/threads ... -drive-esc

My motto is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" followed by "if it is broke, bodge it back together and it should be OK" :)

RONNY actually drives roughly straight now and my driving ability is the limiting factor, currently I don't have any plans for a further improved version...

Maybe I'll get inspired to build a team mate for him :o
