Almost any robot will stop any spinner dead given the right conditions. No antweight-sized motor has enough torque to cause its weapon to pass through a solid object unimpeded. :o

Vertical spinners very rarely stall because the mass of a robot alone is not sufficient to stall the motor - and the robot does not balance on the end of the weapon for very long.
Horizontal spinners may well stall, especially if they hit a robot which is against the wall and cannot be moved out of the way.
If the teeth of a weapon embed themselves in the target robot the motor will almost certainly stall!

If you need a very small motor for your design, you will have to accept (relatively) low power. That's just the laws of physics for you.
If you want a high-power weapon, you will need a bigger, heavier motor, bigger , heavier speed controller - and some decent batteries!

Don't forget that with outrunner type motors you can fix the weapon to the motor case instad of to the shaft, since the case rotates with the shaft. Then you can grind off the shaft and probably reduce the motor length by 10-15mm. :)

We have now sorted the problem with the wheels and motors, by using a different speed controller. :D

I know that the thing with torque true, its just there are higher torque motors out there. Those motors are good, james, and ill probably use them.

EDIT- After alot of searching, i cant find a english site selling outrunners. Any ideas peoples? :-?

These two take my fancy:

The A1504-18 2900KV MOTOR WITH CROSS MOUNT.http://robotbirds.com/catalog/product_i ... ts_id=4985

Or, would this be better?

The 18mm Baby Outrunner - C18-15-25. http://robotbirds.com/catalog/product_i ... ts_id=1416

EDIT- From further research, I am now settled with the first option...

Chaps
Wondering about getting a brushless motor for Cannon Fodders' disk and having looked at a couple of websites I'm realising that I don't really know the parameters to judge them on. Can someone who's using them give me some clues please?

Is something like this appropriate?

2800 rpm doesn't seem that great but 60w does....

Peter Waller currently uses this in Variant and Mutant:

Nice to see you getting back into building :)

Pete, that Kv value is 2850rpm PER VOLT :o

So at a conservative 7.4V, you should get around 21000rpm

Is that enough for you???

See told you I didn't understand it :-) 21k rpm....hmmm, bit pedestrian...perhaps I should run at 12v....

The number of motors is just bewildering and I've only looked at hobbyking because there's something else I want to get from there - and I can use some of the paypal funds all you dear video watchers have been donating

Most spinners these days are run on 3-cell lipos, 11.1v or 12v fully charged, so I would run it on 3 cells
