Dan that sounds like it complies with both the letter and the spirit of the rules!
It's exactly the simple RC expansion that the rule specifically allows - using a "spring" to provide the expansion and an RC "catch" to keep it folded to fit in the cube.

thanks guys. yeah, the acetate is tucked between the flipper and the top of the robot's body. it doesn't rely on the floor at all to keep the acetate folded, in fact when it is in folded position, it doesn't even touch the floor.
