Didn't go too well looks like bicycle wheels are definately the way to go.
Small wide wheels cause way too much drag even when pumped up to 40 psi.
We only came 10th out of 14 in the private entries although they didn't publish the times but I know we also beat several of the company / group entries as some of them needed a push to get to the end and so incured time penalties.
Perhaps we should have spent more time and money on the wheels and bearings and less on tarting it up but it was still fun to build and drive and I am getting used to loosing competitions now I am in my dotage.

Live and learn, Peter!
As you say, you'll know for next time!
I am changing mine to a 3 wheeler, I found a 20" moped wheel for the rear, hopefully will be a good compromise.
Sounds like fun, and 10th sounds pretty good for a first attempt, especially for an old timer!!!! LOL.

I would be proud of 10th of 14th. I'm proud of many things I've come last in, let alone 10th.

Thinking of making my project into a 3 wheeler. Found this on ebay for £15...

From a 125 motorbike. 24" dia inc tyre. Pretty heavy, but heavy isnt necessarily bad in a gravity racer!!
I figure the rotating mass will help with momentum for flat sections.
