Tamiya Rising Fighter or .......

I am looking to by my son (me) his first rc car for Christmas. Having started building an ant weight I have a 2.4Ghz Spectrum Dx5 and Orange RX with a Sky 100-4500 mAh lipo charger that I want to make use of.

If I buy a starter RC kit like the Tamiya Rising Fighter will these parts be of use?

I cannot afford much more than £90 but it looks like this kit contains an ESC and I will just need bigger batteries.

What do you think?

It looks like you might have to add a servo, but that shouldn't be too expensive.
The car is designed to run on NiMH batteries. Your charger will not charge them. You could probably run on a 2 cell lipo pack, but the ESC may be designed for NiMH and not cope too well with lipo. Sadly the manufacturers supply almost no info so it's impossible to figure it out.
Also with a much lighter battery the car will handle very differently (probably worse).
Generally your rc gear will work OK with anything, but matching batteries with escs can get a bit more complicated.

I emailed the store and they confirmed I would need a different ESC. I may now consider a Ready to Run car like the below.

reviews seem pretty good
