There are 2 things that can be done:

a: set it up that new users can only post after forum admin approval.
b: set up usershield so only admins can see new users in de last registered list.

The character recoginition tool in PhpBB does not help.

Its a constant battle - and Gary seems to find most of the problems before I get to them. I've adjusted some settings, including setting admin approval...see if that makes any difference....

Dave, you only see the tip of the iceberg!
I have banned several email domains (ones that are well-known for spam and not much else) which has cut the number of "new members" dramatically.
Unfortunately it seems the more security you put in place the harder they try to get in :(
Hopefully Pete's changes will have the desired effect.

As far as I can see, Maddox should be able to post. I have set the account to "Active" and it all looks OK.
If he still has problems Leo, get him to email me and I will try some other approaches. I'm not sure I've quite got the hang of this Admin approval yet...

No, you're not a spammer! :)

We get mildly upset by people that spam the forum by asking the same question in multiple topics, without waiting more than 5 minutes for someone to reply.

We get really upset  by the spam-bots (and human spammers) that post completely unrelated commercial ads and links on the forum, or who just register and don't post, so that Google then indexes the site that is linked in their profile. Most of these are porn sites, dodgy finance deals, or online pharmacies. We don't want anything to do with them and it's a constant battle to keep them under control.

Rest assured we welcome all genuine roboteers. Remember we all had to start somewhere and, "the only difference between a beginner and an expert is experience".

[General comment - not aimed at patdied] However, do try to help yourself first before relying on other people. You get much a better response to "I've tried x, y and z and now I'm really stuck", rather than "I can't be bothered to read the instructions, how does this work"

Oh thanks :) . I've always cared about how others think about me, it's what makes me. Thats why I try not to ask for so much. Thanks for your help  .

Ask away patdied. I think one of my first posts was something like "I've got a million questions to ask" and I did, and got very helpful responses.
