ARC ESC Help and other newbie questions

Post by Decode »

Hi everybody,
I'm new here but have loved robot combat since I was a kid, so I thought, time to at least make an antweight and see where it goes from there!

I'm sure this questions has been asked before a multitude of times, but I can't seem to find an exact answer anywhere.....
I'm looking at buying the arc awesc v4 esc from here https://www.arc-robotics.org.uk/product ... ontroller/ and really, I wanted to know ,do I need the one with mixing, or the one without?

What does this actual mean? Does it matter for me?

For reference, my other components are going to be..... (if anyone would be so kind to look over it and suggest any changes, or if it's all compatible I'd be crazy grateful!)
Reciever
https://www.arc-robotics.org.uk/product ... er-no-pin/ (it says this is DSM2 only, will this hold me back in terms of controllers?)
Controller
Haven't decided yet, any ideas?
Motors
A couple of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DC-6V-500RPM ... 2749.l2649

Hi,

Whether you need mixing is going to be dependent on the transmitter you have. For our uses it lets you put the steering and forward/reverse on one stick for driving. Some transmitters will have this as an option but having it on an esc is usually a good thing. Other wise it's one channel for each wheel (proper tank style)

Dsm2 is a little bit outdated now - dsmx is more common. Transmitters such as the Devo 7e can do both (and more besides)

Motors and batteries look good to me, as does the servo. I have one of the same servos for sale ATM. Not used in a robot but the label is a bit worn. Just a thought if you wanted to save a few quid.

Hope this helps

Thanks haz!

Okay cool, that makes sense, thank you. So if I was to get one with mixing, will this work with a transmitter that has mixing as well? Does this seem like an Okay esc?

Yeah I'd read that about DSM2, thank you clarifying it for me, maybe I'll look for a new receiver?

Seems like a great controller, I'll add it to my ever growing list, haha.

Yeah that sounds like it'll work for both of us! I'll drop you a direct message!

Mixing is something you can turn off and on, on a transmitter. Mixing enabled on both an ESC and transmitter will put you back to square one as they will cancel out.

For all my robots I have escs with mixing and it off in the radio.I use a mix of dsmx and dsm2 lemon receivers

Esc looks fine I've been wanting one for a while, plus it keeps the money in the community which is good.

Awesome stuff! Haha, yes I thought they might cancel out or something if both were on, I didn't realise you could turn it off on the transmitter.

Thank you for the advice, I've just ordered the esc and the receiver .....

The Devo 7e, is that the Walkera one? https://www.banggood.com/Wholesale-Walk ... ehouse=USA
