Antenna

Can I chop off the antenna\shorten them? To save space and weight?

It doesn't sound like a particularly good idea :)

Antennas' length is tuned for the particular frequency to get the best gain and some funky RF magic. If you trim it, the magic might stop working (or just work less well).

I'm surprised that a 2.4g antenna needs to be so big.

But then again, it's possible that for the range required for an antweight robot, it's ok. I suspect these are designed for RC aircraft to operate > 100m

Does the antenna use a standard type of connector?
Robots: Betsie - RaspberryPi controlled flipper bot with gyro stablisation - too clever for her own good?
Stacie - tidy flipper; 4wd driven by hair bands

Ah ok unless I want to test and possibly waste £8

It’s this one. Cheapest smallest RX that matches my Tx

Exactly that receiver got torn out of my robot and the antenna ripped away by a vert. Dragging along by the wires it kept on working.

Do I want to use it again?
No. I'll play safe.
