Getting an accurate volume in Sketchup

Post by alasdair »

Hi guys

I have transferred a lot of my work into sketchup over the past month, and have shapeways printed a lot of bits and bobs. My major concern is that my latest two prints were horrifcally over the weight I calculated. I calculated the weight using the volume that shapeways gave me, and I am inclined to believe that they found it incorrectly due to some problems with my sketchup file. Searching on the internet I have no results really as to how to ensure an accurate volume calculation. I know you need to remove all intersecting and extra lines, and reversed faces and all that, and through the use of the x-ray camera tool I have done that in the new version. I have recalculated the weight but I am not sure if it is correct or not, so I wanted to ask you all if there is some trick to it before I send the word to shapeways to get printing!

Cheers, Alasdair
